Galesville Apple Affair

[asset|aid=65|format=image|formatter=asset|title=Apple Pie|width=250|height=171|resizable=true|align=left]It's October and the apples are heavy on the trees waiting to be transformed into caramel apples, apple slices, apple cider, apple juice, and, of course, a ten foot apple pie. Ten foot? That's right, a ten foot apple pie cooked in a 12 foot oven. Where? Galesville's Apple Affair, of course! Get a button and come on down to Galesville's town square on the first Saturday of October for your share.

Start your day with an omelet breakfast cooked in a huge skillet then explore the Square, visiting tables laden with arts and crafts and apple treats of every kind. To work off those treats, sign up for the Apple Affair Bike Tour. Take your family on the relatively flat 20 mile tour stopping at local orchards along the way. Or step up for the challenge of 35 to 60 miles with steep hills and rolling roads. Not up for a bike ride? Try out your throwing arm in the horseshoe tournaments at Horseshoe Park a block north of the square.

Prefer to sit back and relax while someone else does the driving? Hop on one of the shuttle busses heading out to the Historical Exhibit at Old Main or to the Open House at Eastside Farm to see the antique farm equipment. When you get back, have a listen to the live music, lunch on brats and hot dogs with a side of Apple Normandy, take a walk through the cemetery, and much, much more. See the full Apple Affair 2008 schedule for a detailed list.

And don't forget to get yourself a slice of that giant pie!

Turtle!

This guy was sitting out in front of the fire station today. After the photo was 'snapped' we relocated him closer to the creek behind the station for his own safety.

Snapped as Medlink was coming in to land in a field for an injured hunter one cool October day.
