Town Square

The bike tour starts on the square in Galesville, which is 25 miles north of La Crosse, Wisconsin on U.S. Highway 53. There are several tour route options of varying distances and challenges. These options give you the opportunity to ride from approximately 20 to 60 miles. The most popular route is the 20 mile orchard tour which goes through two area apple orchards with rest stops at each. This is a relatively flat route through the prairies west of Galesville. The more challenging tours wind through beautiful coulee country surrounding Galesville and Ettrick, where you’ll bike through rolling valleys, short and long challenging hills. Rest stops along the way give you a chance to rest, refuel, and meet other bikers. Most of our rest stops are serviced by area youth groups. Before the tour, enjoy an omelet breakfast at the Apple Affair food tent. After the tour, stroll around the square, have a piece of the 10 foot apple pie, a Queen’s Apple, or a brat. There are apples, cider and plenty of locally made crafts available for purchase. Registration: 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, October 6, 2007, on the square, Galesville, at Critzman Auto Body. Tour Starts The first tour starts at 9 a.m., with groups leaving every 10 minutes, until 10:15 a.m. Those who leave after 10:15 a.m. risk having no support vehicles and no open rest stops. 20-mile Orchard Route rest stops will close between 11:30 and 12:30; longer routes rest stops will close between 2 and 3 p.m. Registration Fee Includes A variety of snacks and refreshments at rest stops, well-marked routes, maps, support vehicles. Additional Fees 100% cotton, long-sleeve T-Shirts are available for $14 each and feature the Apple Affair Bike Tour Design. An Apple Affair Button is required to enter food tent and can be purchased there. Parking We ask that you park in the High School Parking Lot (north on Hwy. 53) so that downtown street parking can be left for non-biking Apple Affair participants. Area Lodging
