No more Prime Time in the La Crosse Tribune

Community: Coulee Region
Posted September 11th, 2008 by Michelle

We've been weekend subscribers to the La Crosse Tribune for many years. The main reason we get it are the Primetime TV listing section and coupons. The rest of the news we could get just as easily online. Well, now they've gotten rid of one of our reasons. The Primetime listing is no more. Instead, they have expanded the listing that comes in the paper each day.  Read more »

I'm a Minneapolis resident who has for a number of years entertained the idea of building a home somewhere in the driftless area of Wisconsin. That pretty much means the Coulee Region and its immediate surroundings.  Read more »

I did this once in a different board. I'll pick a word, scramble it, and give you a hint. You solve it and put in your own scrambled word and hint for the next person.

Are you a coupon person?

Do you use coupons or do you find it a waste of time?

I useto buy the paper for the coupons but i rarely found it worth the money. I am a part of 2 coupon websites that email every 2 weeks with new coupons like Hamburger Helper, Frosted Mini Wheats, Little Swimmers...

one of them is www.smartsource.com

the other is www.latimes.com (scroll to the bottom and click grocery coupons)  Read more »

What are they doing on highway 53?

They've got the median on highway 53 tore up all the way up past OT and I'm curious if anyone knows what they're doing. Last I saw, they'd put in a strip of asphalt the whole way. It looks almost like a bike path, but too narrow and putting a bike path in a highway median is a little nutty anyway. I couldn't find any reference to it on the DOT site. Anyone know what they're doing?

Where can we put flyers?

Community: Coulee Region

I want to get the word out about this site so I'm going to make up some flyers. I was wondering if you all could help me put a list together of where to put them up. Any place that will let me put one up for free is good. Also, if you know any places that one would think would let you but you know for sure won't, that would be good to know, too.

Here's some initial thoughts on possible places  Read more »

I hope that this group will develop a place for inspiration and chat about scrapbooking - projects, techniques, help for each other. I am not very active in the Summer - too busy but would love to get back into my projects now school is starting.

So come on in friends and have a chat!

Miller Bluff Hike

Come explore one of La Crosse’s most scenic bluffs and take in the beautiful views of the ridgeline and the Mississippi River Valley. Hike below the oak and hickory canopy of Hixon Forest up the hill, along dramatic dolomite rock cliffs, and on up to the blufftop overlooking La Crosse. This up-hill trek will be rewarded by a view of the explosion of color of the wildflowers on the picturesque goat prairie. Wildflowers in bloom include bright purple blazing stars, gold and yellow goldenrods, sunflowers, and evening primroses, the whites of spurges and bonesets, and the varied greens, blues and reds of the native grasses. Trip Leader: MVC Conservation Specialist, Abbie Meyer Difficulty: Moderate Extras to bring: Camera, bug spray and drinking water. Directions: From Hwy 16, go east on Bluff Pass Road (you’ll see the Hixon Forest Trailhead sign). Take a right on Milson Court for approximately 0.4 miles. Follow it around to the end (it turns into a gravel road) to the parking lot at the Hixon Forest Trailhead. Please email mrich@MississippiValleyConservancy.org to register. If weather does not permit, hike will be cancelled. Check our website www.MississippiValleyConsevancy.org for more information.
