Holmen star and cross - the controversy continues

You probably won't see me posting a lot in this forum since I tend to shy away from debates. I've never been good at arguing and tend to get shut down easily. But this whole cross thing has been bugging me so here we are. Just read this today:

The village has received a written offer from Washington, D.C.-based American Humanist Association to purchase the land on which a star and cross have been erected for many years. The offer is now $1,000 — 10 times the appraised value.

I'm not very religious... I believe in God but don't practice any particular religion. But the cross has never bothered me. To be honest, I only vaguely noticed it and assumed there was a church up there. Even knowing the truth, it doesn't bother me. It's a nice decoration.

What does bother me is all these groups on their mission to save the world from religious symbols. I mean, really, what do people in Washington D.C. have to do with it? The cross isn't that bright to see it 2000 miles away. Tongue Seems like most of the people in Holmen either want it to stay or don't care. So why all the fuss?

And if it's really such a horrible thing for a religious symbol to be on public land, make the land private. Done deal as far as I'm concerned. But now you've got these people saying that's not good enough and trying to buy the land just to take it down. Crazy. Don't they have anything better to crusade against? Like starving children or something?

So I say let the cross stay. Think of it as a big letter t if it makes you feel better. Smile
