Reclosable sock bags?

I bought some new socks for my 3 year old. They came in a reclosable bag. All I could think of was, "Why?" LOL! I mean, do people usually put the socks back in the bag again? I can just picture some bored designer trying to think how he could add a bit of interest to the sock packaging he's designing saying, "You know, this bag would be so much better if it was reclosable."

Am I missing something here? Smile

Not even two months ago, the same question burned in my mind... But I suppose if you buy them while you're on vacation or something it's convenient to be able to close it. Or if you want to use the bag for something else entirely. I dunno... still kinda confuses me.

Yeah, I guess I could see the reusability part. Maybe cutting down on waste by giving you an incentive to reuse the bag?

Hmm... didn't exactly think about it that way, but it makes perfect sense to me... Smile

Hi, I'm new here..actually first time I think stopping by but I saw this post and had to laugh. Smile
I wondered the same thing one time while shopping in the boys department. Why? Maybe some people that are all up into recycling use these later to put sandwiches in for lunch? lol

Well anyways, I kinda knew the lady that works in the department since she sees me around there a lot buying kids clothes so I ask her what was with this new and improved bag? She told me that soooo many customers simply have to open the bag up to see the size of the sock before they buy. Once they tear into the bag to 'check it out' they leave the bag and pick up a bag that is unopen and buy that one instead leaving the bag that they tore up with the sock hanging out. Well, after this happens, well I'm sure you guessed it, someone else will have to pull another sock out and next thing you know there is socks lose all over the place and the next bag gets opened up. Finally the store ends up pairing the socks together and then either putting sock back into the bag and taping it all up and then have to put in in the bin on sale or just tag the pairs together and sale them individually. Either way the store loses money.

So, to make a long story shorter...the sock companies started making zip lock style bags that can be re closed so you can open it to check the size and hopefully put the sock back in and zip it back up. LOL Well you guessed it...the sales clerk told me that people will ignore the zip lock on top and STILL rip the bag! Or they will take the sock out of the bag and STILL just drop the sock and leave the bag open.

Let's face it..most people are just lazy...and figure that's what sales people get paid for..to clean up after their messes. Sad

Well now you have it as to why this new bag.

Glad I could help.

Smile

Oh, wow, you know, when I posted this, I honestly didn't expect an explanation. It was more just sharing a "wtf" kind of thing. Laugh But that's cool that you know the answer and that makes so much more sense, now. Sucks that people still rip them, though. Angry People can be very lazy.

Is this PK? You can sign up for an account, if you want. You don't have to live in the Coulee Region. Wink Up to you, though. Posting anonymously is fine. I just like knowing who I'm talking to. LOL

Well, well... I just KNEW there had to be an explanation for that. Hanes wouldn't waste valuable plastic on a zipping bag for no reason, now would they? lol. Thank you "random user" for the clarification! Smile

Heh, I think it's PK from theBubbler. I saw Carol came over and posted, too, but she already has an account here. I'm trying to decide what to do about anon posting. On the one hand, people are a lot more likely to post if they don't have to hassle with registration. On the other, there's just something about having a conversation with a person that has no name or anything attached that seems akward. There is an option to require people to fill out that little user info form that pops up when you're anonymous, but I didn't know if I should do that. Hmm... Totally nothing to do with sock bags. I think I'll make a poll and see what everyone thinks. Smile
