Crossfire

There's been a couple articles in the Tribune about Crossfire and the problems local businesses have with the people hanging around the street outside of it. The people in the comment section are all over the place about it.

I have to admit, my first thought was why can't they just go somewhere else? I could sympathize with the business owners because it can be intimidating to have large groups of teens and homeless milling around. Maybe that's because I've been lucky enough to always have a roof over my head and food to eat, even at my poorest.

Yesterday I met with the TLC Holmen folks about their website and the person who is taking over the project was there. He's involved with Crossfire and so there was a little talk of that before we got started. I ended up coming away from there feeling guilty for my first thoughts. These are people, after all, and we can't just shove them into a corner somewhere.

It's a tough situation all around. I can still see the point of the people trying to make a go of business downtown, which isn't exactly a hot shopping district as it is. But I don't think making them go in through the alley is the answer, either. They aren't a bit of dirt that can just be swept under the rug.

I'm curious what others think. Is there a solution? What do you think should be done?

Re: Crossfire

I know one thing... I've known a few kids that hung out at Crossfire and I would not allow my children to come even close to that establishment. It's supposed to be Christian, but they sell pot and crap in front of it and then get high down the street. Why parents let their kids go there is beyond my understanding (my sil is one of them who did, thinking it was a good place for her Teen son). Now if they would have a little patrolling going on there, maybe the situation wouldn't be quite like it is. It's a good idea, but in my opinion not one that's working.

Wonder how many people I would've killed by now, if I had telekinetic powers?

I've been down in that area and find it very annoying having them hang around with nothing better to do. Sure they need a place to go, but putting an establishment like this that caters to troubled teens (who are all angels) in a business district is just a bad decision. There has got to be a better location that is good for the businesses and still have a gathering place that isn't hidden and out of sight.

WOW how can the average person make a comment about a wonderful Christian organization that has helped so many young teen in this town. I would of expected this harsh comments from towns like Racine, Kenosha, or Milwaukee but not La Crosse. I have been to Crossfire on a number of times. I wrote a wonderful paper about this organization.

Those small business owners need to call for police if they see issues going on in the streets or sidewalks by Crossfire, but don't assume it is all Crossfire's people causing the issue. Just because Crossfire is there doesn't mean all those people causing the issues are apart of this organization.
