Amish asked to pick up after horses
City of Viroqua officials have opened dialogue with the Amish community to see if the Amish will clean up horse manure.

Source.

While I can sympathize with folks not wanting horse poop in the streets, this does seem a bit much. We're not talking about carrying a bag with you when you walk your dog. Horses have some seriously big poops. And to stop while driving a buggy to go back and clean it up... Yuck.

Do they really have that many Amish that the poop is cluttering the streets?

There are bags you can put behind the horse so you don't have to stop and pick up the poop.. just something the Amish have to purchase or make for themselves. I find it responsible to clean up after your horse when you're on the street and yes there can be quite a few Amish going up and down country roads.

Grr... I really wish the local newspapers would stop changing the links on their stories. Fixed the link to the article. Anyway, it says:

“He said a sling would affect steering a horse and carriage. They thought it would be troublesome.”

So it sounds like that idea was ruled out.
