Deerwood is a huge park over by the elementary school. It's backed up right against the bluffs and has lots of trails. There is a large parking lot that offers plenty of parking unless there's a baseball game going on. The parking lot is right next to the play area which is good for not having far to walk but a bit scary if you have little ones that might run out there.
The play area has a huge play structure with multiple slides and ladders to climb and bridges to cross. The side closer to the parking lot is better for the little ones because it has steps. Connected to that by monkey bars is a much higher part that has ladders going up it. The downside is that it's a lot easier for a child to run under and get to the "older kid" side than it is for an adult to walk around.
In addition to the climbing structure, there's a large swing-set with four regular swings and two baby swings. Unfortunately, the area under the swings tends to get flooded easy whenever it rains. There are a few other bad spots near the play structure as well. They recently put down a fresh coat of wood chips so that may help.
Seating is plentiful in the play area with picnic tables and benches all around. There's not much shade to be had, though, as all the trees are small and farther away.
In addition to the play area, there are baseball fields, tennis courts, a basketball court that's also an ice hockey rink, and a semi open shelter. More information about these can be found on the Holmen website.
