Come explore one of La Crosse’s most scenic bluffs and take in the beautiful views of the ridgeline and the Mississippi River Valley. Hike below the oak
and hickory canopy of Hixon Forest up the hill, along dramatic dolomite rock cliffs, and on up to the blufftop overlooking La Crosse. This up-hill trek will
be rewarded by a view of the explosion of color of the wildflowers on the picturesque goat prairie. Wildflowers in bloom include bright purple blazing stars,
gold and yellow goldenrods, sunflowers, and evening primroses, the whites of spurges and bonesets, and the varied greens, blues and reds of the
native grasses.

Trip Leader: MVC Conservation Specialist, Abbie Meyer
Difficulty: Moderate
Extras to bring: Camera, bug spray and drinking water.

Directions: From Hwy 16, go east on Bluff Pass Road (you’ll see the Hixon Forest Trailhead sign). Take a right on Milson Court for approximately 0.4 miles. Follow it around to the end (it turns into a gravel road) to the parking lot at the Hixon Forest Trailhead.
